mg Design Shuts Their Doors, Class Action Lawsuit to Follow

Apr 25, 2019

The trade show industry lost one of its most tenured vendors last week as Wisconsin-based mg Design shut their doors after nearly 60 years of operation.

The move came as a surprise to their 100-150 employees who were notified the company was closing operations when they showed up to work last Wednesday.

mg Design was an industry leader in trade show exhibits, and according to Exhibit City News: “was a pioneer in the concept of incorporating marketing strategy into exhibit design. Their headquarters were just outside of Chicago and that location was a full-service facility with complete account, marketing, design, fabrication & production, I&D/labor/logistics and warehouse services and was home to one of their three regional exhibit rental inventory hubs; in addition, they had offices in Las Vegas, San Francisco and Orlando.”

Now former mg Design employees have moved on from their initial shock and are filing a federal class action lawsuit against their former company, alleging failure to give the required 60 days advanced written notice under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification act, according to a report from the Kenosha News.

The news source also states the lawsuit alleges the company’s failure to pay employees’ wages and related compensation, as well as failure to make pension and 401k contributions required under federal law.
